Modern Ship Handling Simulators have made a breakthrough in deck officers’ studies. They not only incorporate wide range of navigational equipment which allows conducting a number of different courses; these cutting-edge simulators accurately recreate behavioral characteristics of the simulated ship to facilitate educational process.

Among obligatory Ship Handling Simulator courses now are Bridge Resource Management and Bridge Team Management. These are the unique training programs aiming to eliminate navigation related accidents by raising quality of bridge teamwork in conjunction with modern technology available on board. Students study resource management principles, cultural awareness, roles and tasks distribution. Much attention is paid to human factor and incident awareness. All knowledge trainees put into practice by choosing the most appropriate equipment in front of them.

Another popular course, Ship Handling and Maneuvering, is designed for qualification upgrade of experienced navigational officers. Program focuses on challenging maneuvering techniques in open and confided waters, collecting data for turning circles, crash stop, and man overboard recovery. Practical part includes exercises with the use of main engines, thrusters and tugs as well as docking and undocking maneuvers, anchoring, and picking up pilots. There are also specific varieties of this training such as Large Ship Handling and Maneuvering or Azimuth Tug Ship Handling.

Simulators of this kind are multifunctional, so trainings like Radar Observation and Plotting, ARPA, Automatic Identification System (AIS), GMDSS, ECDIS Course are often held there. Also, Ship Handling Simulator is used for advanced navigational courses such as Ice Navigation, Collision Avoidance or Ship to Ship Transfer.
