Steering Course
A lot of training centers around the globe offer Steering Course designed with the account of the specific needs of Deck Ratings keeping a Navigational Watch and Deck Cadets. This training provides them with the profound understanding of the helm behavior under various navigational conditions and allows developing vital vessel handling skills.
Objective:
Students successfully completing the Steering Course will:
• Improve their watch-keeping abilities;
• Upgrade their steering and ship handling skills under different weather and visibility conditions;
• Learn to operate with pilot on board navigating vessel safely through the narrow channels and rivers under his guidance.
Course content:
• Adverse weather, currents, winds, etc. effects on vessel behavior;
• Maritime English used in Steering;
• Steering theory and practice (Follow up and Non follow-up);
• Steering under various navigational conditions;
• Steering with a pilot (in river, narrow water ways).
Target Audience: Deck ratings, cadets and trainees.
Pre-requisites: None.
Duration: 1 day.
