Ship Handling of ASD Tugs
It is a common knowledge that Ship Handling of ASD Tugs requires certain expertise. To ensure safe and efficient navigation of this type of vessels a special simulator course was developed. The Ship Handling of ASD Tugs training is primarily targeted at qualified workboat nautical officers with little or no experience of ASD tug/ Z-drive ships handling.
Objective:
It is expected that on successful completion of the Ship Handling of ASD Tugs course, participants will demonstrate profound knowledge of ASD tug design and competence in its navigational characteristics; perform necessary port and offshore operations on Z-drive workboats faultlessly.

• Variety of Z-drive mechanical systems;
• Maneuvering on the ASD tug;
• Fundamental principles of the light vessel handling;
• Communications;
• Troubleshooting techniques;
• Basic Barge maneuvers;
• Light tug maneuvers (current influence);
• Z-Drive Competency Evaluation;
• Tractor tugs in an escort mode;
• Theory and practice of joystick operation.
Target Audience: Tug masters and Deck Officers.
Pre-requisites: Basic sea-going and ship handling experience.
Duration: 3 – 5 days.
