The Ship Handling and Maneuvering (Refresher Course) is developed for the bridge personnel of all levels to enable them to polish and further develop skills and knowledge acquired during the initial training. The course syllabus is built around simulator exercises and is based on the STCW 95 Convention Sections A-VIII/2, B-VIII/2 and B-I/12.

Objectives:

Successful delegates completing the Ship Handling and Maneuvering (Refresher Course) will be able to:

• Plan and carry out voyage on any kind of modern vessel;
• Perform standard ship handling maneuvers in open and confided waters;
• Appreciate the effect of the wind, currents, banks and other forces on the vessels maneuverability and navigate safely in accordance with the operating conditions;
• Use engine and thrusters efficiently during maneuvers;
• Demonstrate competence in course of mooring and berthing operations including ship-to-ship mooring at sea;
• Handle vessel effectively in case of emergency.

• Voyage planning;
• Basic ship handling maneuvers;
• Influence of wind, current, shallows, banks;
• Ship handling in open and congested waters;
• Berthing and mooring operations;
• Emergency ship handling, crisis management.

Target Audience: Masters, Deck officers who are willing to revalidate their Ship Handling and Maneuvering certificates.

Pre-requisites: valid initial Ship Handling and Maneuvering course certificate, OOW CoC.

Duration: 3 days.
