Offshore personnel though usually transported by helicopters are nevertheless required to have some nautical knowledge especially with regards to emergency evacuation. There is a series of Offshore Maritime Trainings which are aimed to developing rescue crafts operating skills.

One of such courses is Basic (Conventional) Lifeboat Coxswain training. The syllabus consists of technical description and equipment specifications of the lifeboat, emergency protocols, instruction for coxswain and crew, alternative means of evacuation and first aid techniques.

Another important course is called High Speed MOB Coxswain and was developed for personnel assigned to the task of launching and operating Man-Overboard Boats. The program presupposes practical exercises in the use of high speed craft and search and rescue including night operations; first aid, life support and transportation of the rescued to an offshore installation or vessel; communication between life boat and the rig; surface swimming and other useful techniques.

There is also an OPITO TEMPSC (Twin fall) Coxswain course. The Initial program is designed to train Offshore Lifeboat Coxswains.  During the course delegates must fully appreciate the role and duties of the coxswain (Twin Fall) including their responsibility for passengers’ safety; realize the working mechanisms of the TEMPSC (Totally Enclosed Motor Propelled Survival Craft), and how to properly launch and maneuver them to safety. There are special pre-requisites to this course though. Students must hold valid BOSIET or T-BOSIET and FOET or T-FOET certificates when applying for the training.
