Offshore installations, isolated as they are, require higher safety standards than any land-based Oil&Gas object. Moreover, personnel of the rig or vessel will need to cope with an emergency unaided. So, the OPITO Combined Helideck and Offshore Emergency Response Team Member (OERTM/HERTM) training was developed in order to create professional emergency teams.  It unites syllabuses of Offshore Emergency Response Team Member (OERTM) and Helideck Emergency Response Team Member (HERTM) trainings and assigns 75% of time to practical exercises.

Objectives:

Upon the successful completion of the course delegates will:

• Fully understand the roles of OERTM and HERTM, their duties and responsibilities;
• Be skillful with fixed and portable fire-fighting equipment of an offshore installation as well as with controls and appliances located on the helideck;
• Know the tactics of offshore emergency response: approaching the incident area, controlling the emergency, search and rescue, casualties management;
• Be experienced in helideck and helicopter emergency response.

Course content:

• Offshore installation fire or emergency response pre-planning;
• Offshore Emergency Response Team Member duties and responsibilities;
• Helideck Emergency Response Team Member duties and responsibilities;
• Helicopter operational hazards;
• Helideck and helicopter fixed emergency equipments;
• Practical exercises with fixed firefighting systems;
• OERTM dealing with non-fire emergencies;
• Controlled access to incident area, communication with OERTL;
• Case studies of best emergency coping practices;
• Search and rescue of missing personnel, casualty management;
• Portable firefighting equipment, using flushing foam extinguishers;
• Operation of breathing apparatus;
• Securing an incident area, minimizing damage to property;
• Communications with HLOs and other Emergency Response Team members.

Assessment: delegates are assessed by directs observation during practical tasks and with the help of oral or written examination. Successful delegates are awarded with both OERTM and HERTM certificates.

Target Audience*: the OPITO Combined Helideck & Offshore Emergency Response Team Member (OERTM/HERTM) course is suitable for offshore personnel who are required to obtain both qualifications at once.

Note*: This training complies with the UKOOA (United Kingdom Offshore Operations Association) guidelines for Competence and Training in Emergency response for initial training requirements and allows OERTM/HERTM certificate holder to proceed to the installation specific training.

Pre-requisites: Valid  BOSIET/ FOET/ or T-BOSIET/T-FOET/ certificate. Some providers require Helideck Assistant (HDA) Initial Training or Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) certificates instead. Another compulsory requirement is an Offshore Medical certificate.

 Duration: 6 days.

Validity: 2 years for both certificates.
