The Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training (TBOSIET) is an OPITO training that was designed in order to introduce novices to the offshore industry to the specific safety system which is in place on offshore installations as well as to the response expected in case of emergencies during transfer by helicopter to and from the worksite in a tropical environment.

Objectives:

• Identify key hazards attributed to the offshore installation, risks which they might lead to and know the means of crisis prevention.
• Recognize main offshore safety guidelines and key safety systems.
• During simulator exercises train equipment handling and helicopter escape.
• Perform efficient first aid and sea survival techniques.
• Use various firefighting equipment and demonstrate satisfactory self rescue skills including leaving smoke-filled units with partially obscured visibility.

Course Content:

• Overview of offshore environment specific for tropical regions;
• Offshore hazards specific for tropical regions;
• Safe working practices;
• Helicopter safety procedures;
• HUET;
• Sea survival and first aid techniques;
• Liferaft mustering and lifeboat passenger module;
• Fire fighting and self rescue crash course.

Target Audience: Offshore personnel and seafarers travelling regularly to worksites by helicopters in tropical regions.

Pre-requisites: None specific, however, some center do ask for a valid medical certificate.

Validity: 4 years.
