Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF)
Today the Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF) training stands both as a part of mandatory Basic Safety Training (BST) and as an individual course taken by marine personnel who require to revalidate their STCW CoC*. The training complies with table A-VI/1-2 STCW 2010 guidelines and includes theoretical and intensive practical parts.
Objectives:
The aim of the Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF) course is to provide trainees with all-round fire-fighting experience i.e.:
• ways to minimize the risk of fire onboard;
• teach them to combat fires in the confided conditions of the vessel and use fire-extinguishing equipment properly;
• escape from smoke filled spaces and evacuate others;
• wear breathing apparatus;
• search and take care of the casualties.
Course Content:
• Introduction and fire statistics;
• Typical causes of ignition onboard and types of fire;
• Onboard fire fighting emergency procedures;
• Fire spread and detection;
• Classification of fires;
• Firefighting equipment and appliances, their location onboard;
• Introduction to Breathing apparatus;
• Practical exercises with portable and mobile fire extinguishers;
• Fire fighting tasks with hoses, nozzles and other hose equipment;
• BA practice tasks; SAR.
Assessment: Students’ assessment includes written test and practical examination on fire fighting.
Target Audience: All seagoing personnel.
Pre-requisites: Medical Fitness certificate as practical tasks of the training tend to be very physically demanding.
Duration: 1.5 – 3 days in different centers.
*Note: according to IMO requirements starting from 1st January 2017 officers wishing to update their STCW CoC must be in possession of the following 5 valid certificates: Personal Survival Techniques (PST), Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF), Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat other than Fast Rescue Boat, Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF) and Fast Rescue Boat.
