The Ship Stability and Trim for Bulk Carriers is an advanced course for Deck officers devoted to stability calculations specific to Bulk Carriers i.e. suitability and center of gravity of various cargoes and its optimal layout to maintain hull strength, trim, draft and seaworthiness.

Objective:

The main objectives of the Ship Stability and Trim for Bulk Carriers course are that students who pass it successfully:

• Acquire vessel specific skills of stability calculations and perform them faultlessly depending on the type of cargo onboard;
• Possess the sufficient knowledge to upload the cargo correctly in the Bulk carrier tanks to achieve stability and proper Center of Gravity of the vessel;
• Control the stowage of the cargo onboard to ensure safety during adverse weather periods;
• Preserve the quality and safety of cargo itself; avoid contamination during transportation;
• Store cargoes in an optimal order to make discharging in various destinations easier.

Course content:

• Revision of the basic Ship Stability and Trim course principles;
• Stability calculations specific to different cargo (grain, iron ores, minerals, coal carriers, self unloaders, etc.)
• Bulk Carrier stability and hull strength checklist;
• Securing cargo;
• Stability in sea;
• Cargo charging and discharging, stability and trim.

Target Audience: Course is open for bridge personnel of all ranks, but will be of particular interest for Chief Officers who are usually responsible for these cargo arrangements.
