HSE Offshore First Aid Refresher Course

The HSE Offshore First Aid Refresher course is designed in compliance with the Offshore Installations and Pipeline Works (First Aid) Regulations 1989 to ensure continued competence of the first-aid providers working on offshore installations in the UK sector. The course must be taken every three years.

Objective:

The goal of the HSE Offshore First Aid Refresher training is to restore knowledge delivered during the initial HSE Offshore First Aid course and upgrade participants’ competence in the areas of life support and offshore medical emergency response.

Course content:

• First aider’s role and duties’ review;
• Record keeping and first aid equipment;
• Basic life support (CPR), the use of defibrillators, the use and maintenance of manual resuscitators, manual suction devices, oropharyngeal airways and oxygen supplies.
• Burns and eye injuries;
• Assessment and treatment of common major and minor illnesses;
• Poisons that might be encountered offshore;
• Unconscious casualty management; wounded, bleeding and shocked casualty;
• Safe administration of Entonox;
• Injures to the bones, muscles and joints;
• Hypothermia, hyperthermia and drowning;
• Hygiene and prevention of cross-infection during a first aid;
• Transportation by helicopter.

Target Audience: Certified HSE offshore first-aiders who require revalidation of their initial certificates.

Pre-requisites*: In-date HSE Offshore First Aid certificate.

Note*: Some training providers also ask for BOSIET and FOET trainings as pre-requisites for the course.

Duration: 2 days.
