HSE Offshore First Aid Course

The HSE Offshore First Aid training provides qualification of the first-aider on an offshore installation in accordance with the Offshore Installations and Pipeline Works (First Aid) Regulations 1989. The program puts the premium on the CPR techniques and recognition and first medical aid to typical offshore traumas and health conditions.

Objective:

On completion of the HSE Offshore First Aid training delegates will obtain sufficient skills to:

• Provide first aid successfully to a colleague in an offshore environment;
• Understand the role and duties of the first-aider on an offshore installation so as to extend help quickly, safely and effectively;
• Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) including the use of automated external defibrillators;
• Provide first aid to a casualty who is unconscious, bleeding or in a shock;
• Identify minor and major illnesses and health conditions and act appropriately;
• Communicate effectively in a case of emergency;
• Manage transportation of a sick or injured person effectively including understanding the helicopter transfer procedures and hindrances;
• Understand the basic rules of Entronox administration, situations when it is required and the administration procedure.

• The Cardio-Vascular System illnesses conditions treatment;
• Use of AED;
• Offshore medical emergencies;
• Traumas and wounds.

Target Audience: Offshore personnel designated to take the role of the first aid provider.

Pre-requisites: Medical fitness.

Duration: 4 days.

Validity: 3 years, revalidated through the HSE Offshore First Aid Refresher training.
