Basic Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations CourseThe Basic Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations course is specifically designed for officers and ratings assigned with cargo handling duties on oil tankers. The training is the analogue of the Basic Training for Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations course and complies with STCW Section A-V/1, paragraphs 2 to 7 requirements.

Objective:

Upon the completion of the Basic Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations course delegates will acquire comprehensive understanding of the oil tanker cargo system including pipeline, pumps, etc. and overview of cargo handling i.e. loading, discharging, care in transit, terminal operations and so on. Particular attention is given to safety procedures attributed to oil tankers.

Course content:

• Theory of oil tankers – types, layout, systems and equipment;
• Oil cargo physical and chemical properties;
• Hazards of oil cargo, flammability, sources of ignition;
• Cargo system and cargo operations;
• Safety procedures, tank atmosphere control;
• Oil tanker fire prevention;
• Oil spill prevention, MARPOL requirements.

Target Audience: Officers and ratings assigned to work on oil tankers.

Pre-requisites: Valid Basic Safety Training (BST) certificate.

Duration: 5 days.
