IWCF Level 3The IWCF Drilling Well Control Level 3 training is developed for personnel assigned to shut in a well in case of unintended or unexpected kick. The course syllabus is built up on the IWCF Drilling Well Control Level 2 (Introductory) training program and is intended to enhance participants’ well control skills.

Objective:

Upon successful completion of the IWCF Drilling Well Control Level 3 training delegates will be able to:

• Demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge of surface and subsea BOP stack operation in accordance with IWCF Rotary Well Control Surface & Subsea BOP Stack Certification Syllabus;
• Operate well control equipment correctly in compliance with IWCF Rotary Well Control Surface & Subsea BOP Stack Certification Syllabus;
• Regain control over well as per IWCF requirements in a simulated environment.

Course content:

• Well control equipment;
• API practices and recommendations;
• Familiarization with formation pressures and strengths;
• Hydrostatic and dynamic pressure;
• Equivalent Circulating Density;
• Gas law and fluid behavior;
• Phenomena of kicks: possible causes, indicators;
• Shut-it procedures;
• Maximum Allowable Annulus Surface Pressure (MAASP);
• Choke line friction compensation;
• Riser margin;
• IWCF kill sheets filling in requirements (vertical, horizontal and deviated wells);
• Well killing methods and problems;
• Deviated wells control nuances.

Assessment: the IWCF Drilling Well Control Level 3 course includes three stages of assessment: written IWCF exercise and practical test with minimum score of 70%, IWCF principles and procedures test and equipment test performed on simulator.  Candidates might choose either “Combined” (Surface & Subsea) or “Surface Only” IWCF Rotary Well Control Surface & Subsea BOP Stack Certification Syllabus.

Target Audience: Drillers, assistant drillers and other Oil&Gas personnel with well control duties. Full list of recommended job titles might be consulted here.

Pre-requisites: Valid IWCF Drilling Well Control Level 2 certificate.

Duration: 5 days.

Note: Successful completion of the Level 3 course provides an opportunity to progress to IWCF Drilling Well Control (Level 4) training.
