The IMCA Diver Medic Technician is an advanced training in first medical aid and life support for management and treatment of diving casualties both during diving operations and in hyperbaric chamber.

Objective:

The main learning objectives of the IMCA Diver Medic Technician course include:

• Introduction to diving and hyperbaric chamber operations;
• Performance of the advanced first aid and life support activities during emergencies;
• Communication with the professional medical personnel pending their arrival to the site and administering diving casualty care;
• Cooperation with the Diving Supervisor during the decompression procedures and providing medical advice if required.

Course content:

• Physiology of divers;
• Diagnostic procedures – measurement of vital signs;
• Administration of oxygen, resuscitation;
• Diving illnesses, traumas, blast injury;
• Gas and fume exposure;
• Drowning;
• Nitrogen narcosis;
• Oxygen toxicity;
• High pressure nervous syndrome;
• Hypothermia and Hyperthermia;
• Under pressure;
• Advanced airway management;
• Performing intravenous infusions;
• Importance of sterile techniques;
• Insertion of urinary catheter;
• Suturing and parenteral administration of drugs;
• Casualty transportation methods.

Target Audience: Experienced commercial divers upgrading their qualification to Diver Medic Technician, Diving Supervisors.

Pre-requisites: Check with the training provider.

Validity: 2 years. A 5-day  IMCA Diver Medic Renewal course should be taken 3 months before or 8 weeks after renewal date.

Note: IMCA Diver Medic Technician certificate is compatible with the ADAS Diver Medical Technician (DMT), MAD-A and MAD-B certificate by NDC and Diver Medic Technician certification issued by NBDHMT

Duration: Over 10 days.
