This is a practical training targeted at providing the junior engine personnel with a sufficient experience of operation of the up-to-date machinery installed on modern vessels as well as develop best practices of engine room watch-keeping. The course is STCW 2010 compliant (Regulation I/12 and STCW code B-I/12-73) and designed in accordance with IMO Model course 2.07.

Objectives:

• The main goal of the course is to obtain comprehensive understanding of the modern merchant vessel Engine Room operation.
• Trainees also get the awareness and habit for the pre-planning and proper use of checklists which is a vital factor of onboard safety.
• In course of the training officers learn to identify and trouble-shoot problems in engine room systems and;
• Take correct operational decisions and delegate tasks as well.

Course content:

• Familiarization with Engine Room simulator, its systems and types of vessels represented;
• Starting up various systems following applicable procedures and international guidelines;
• Power generation and distribution system operation with simultaneous running of Aux. engine;
• Simulator exercises with the main engine.
• Emergency scenarios implementation and coping;
• Objectives and best watch-keeping techniques;
• Engine Room Log Book keeping.

Assessment: there is an undergoing assessment for all course trainees. Active participation in discussions and completion of simulator tasks are required for obtaining the ERS certificate.

Target Audience:  Junior Marine Engine Officers and Ratings in Charge of Engineering Watch.

Pre-requisites: CoC and previous technical knowledge is required to enter the course.
