This training is developed as safety guidance for officers and rating responsible for cargo handling of Dangerous, Hazardous and Harmful Cargoes (HAZMAT) onboard. The course is based on the sections B-V/b and B-V/c of STCW convention, requirements of IMDG code and guidelines of the IMO Model Course 1.10.

Objectives:

• Upon successful completion of the Dangerous, Hazardous and Harmful Cargoes (HAZMAT) training delegates will possess comprehensive understanding of physical characteristics and chemical properties of dangerous substances that can be transported be sea.
• They also shall navigate freely in the IMDG classification of the dangerous goods (1 – 9 levels) and be familiar with hazards associated with each level and methods of health damage prevention.
• Course also includes first medical aid after sustaining a chemical damage module.

Course Content:

• Familiarization with IMO and IMDG requirements and guidelines;
• General principles, definitions and references;
• Classification of Dangerous, Hazardous and Harmful Substances;
• Dangerous Goods list;
• Packing instructions and testing;
• Tank construction features and basic cargo handling procedures;
• Medical first aid in the accidents involving Dangerous Goods.

 Assessment: course ends with the written examination.

Target Audience: Sea-going and shore-based personnel in charge of handling Dangerous, Hazardous and Harmful Cargoes (HAZMAT).

Pre-requisites: None.

Duration: 45 days.
