The purpose of the Welding and Brazing of Stainless Steel course is to introduce participants to the basic set up and correct operation of on-board welding machine designed for manual TIG and arc welding of stainless steel. Participants will develop skills for producing fillet welds in stainless steel corner/tee joints in all welding positions using SMAW or TIG process.

Objective:

Upon completion of the Welding and Brazing of Stainless Steel course delegates will obtain sufficient knowledge of safe onboard welding equipment operation as well as the consumables associated with TIG and arc welding process. They will also demonstrate confident welding and brazing skills working with stainless steel.

Course content:

• Introduction to SMAW to TIG process;
• Safety precautions and procedures connected with manual arc welding on board;
• Tools, materials, methods and techniques applied in manual arc welding and cutting;
• Practical exercises in setting up a welding machine and making fillet/butt welds on stainless steel in all positions.

Target Audience: Wipers, Marine Engineers, Oilers, Fitters and Able Seamen with welding experience, but no recognized training.

Pre-requisites: Some initial welding experience.

Duration: 5 days.
