The High Voltage Course (Management Level) is developed to provide ship engine and electrical personnel with in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of ship high voltage installations operation, maintenance and troubleshooting. Training is based on the Tables A-III/2 and A-III/6 for electrical, electronic and control systems at the management level of the STCW 2010 convention.

Objectives:

During the High Voltage Course (Management Level) training delegates will achieve following results:

• Familiarize with operational, constructional and safety aspects of the marine HV units;
• Carry out isolation and testing of the system safely and efficiently;
• Be able to maintain HV installation in the working order if one of the components malfunctions (develop a successful isolation strategy);
• Identify system faults and take correct troubleshooting actions;
• Assist HV system manufacturers in regular and accident maintenance;
• Work with the HV system documentation competently;

Course content:

• Design, components, functions and operational features of the marine High Voltage installations;
• International and local (USA/ UK, NOR) rules and legislation;
• Recognition of malfunctions of the system and remedial actions;
• Development of isolation strategy for malfunctioning components of HV system;
• Suitable tools selection for isolation and testing of ship HV installations;
• Performing switching and isolation procedures and corresponding documents completion;
• HV installation safety working practices and permits;
• Earthing and discharging of HV system component;
• Practical exercises on marine HV installation simulator.

Note: the High Voltage Course (Management Level) might also include a Switchgear module where students learn to carry out maintenance and troubleshooting of marine HV Switchgear and assign suitably qualified personnel for the task; perform a 110 Volt DC for control of HV Switchgear and carry out table top exercises on the corresponding simulator facility.

Assessment: written test and simulator exercises.

Target Audience: Marine engineers, ETOs and Electrical Officers, Technical Superintendents.

Note: the High Voltage Course (Management Level) might also include a Switch Gear module devoted to the safety procedures and operations of HV Switch Gear.

Pre-requisites: Prior electrical or electro-technical experience. Some centers also require minimum 12 months experience as EOOW or similar.

Duration: 5 days.
