The Bridge Watchkeeping and Collision Avoidance course is designed to close up the gap between the Bridge Watchkeeping and Collision Regulation (COLREGs) trainings as it incorporates syllabuses of the both courses into a comprehensive best practice program. It complies with the requirements of the Regulation II/1 of STCW 1995 Convention and COLREG’72.

Objective:

It is expected that upon completion of the Bridge Watchkeeping and Collision Avoidance course delegates will:

• Master best watchkeeping practices;
• Be able to perform watchkeeping duties safely in any weather and visibility conditions;
• Identify error chains and be able to brake them;
• Demonstrate good knowledge of COLREG’72 and ensure safe and efficient navigation.

Course content:

• Bridge Watchkeeping Procedures as per STCW;
• Navigational equipment;
• Basic vessel maneuvering characteristics;
• Restricted visibility and adverse weather navigational techniques;
• Navigation with the pilot on board;
• Human factor and error chains;
• COLREGs’72, SOLAS Reg 34;
• Contingency planning and emergency response;
• Case studies.

Target Audience: Management and Operational level Deck Officers.

Pre-requisites: Deck officer’s CoC and previous sea-going experience is required.

Duration: 3 days.
