The Weather Routing course is developed in order to train Bridge officers’ ability to analyze weather forecasts and data obtained from ship’s facsimile or software for the purposes of voyage planning and safe and timely navigation.

Objective:

The key goal of the Weather Routing course is to provide Deck Officers of all levels with practical knowledge of working with meteorological information received from ship’s weather equipment and onshore weather services in order to conduct optimal passage planning avoiding heavy weather zones.

Course content:

• Weather Systems; atmospheric pressure, wind, current distribution;
• Commonly used weather terms and definition; facsimile chart legend;
• Pressure systems over oceans;
• Weather forecast;
• Techniques of weather routing of ships;
• Weather routing services from onshore agencies.

Target Audience: Deck officers of all levels, cadets and trainees.

Pre-requisites: None.

Duration: 2 days.
