This course is designed for conscientious nautical officers dedicated to upgrading their navigational skills. The Ship Handling in Restricted Waters training complies with Table A-II/2 & A-II/3 of the STCW 2010 Convention and consists of theoretical sessions and simulator practices targeted at mastering safe ship handling in narrow channels and other types of confided water areas.

Objective:

The key objective of the Ship Handling in Restricted Waters training is to provide participants with the necessary knowledge as well as hand-on techniques which are considered to be the best international practice in narrow channels passing and restricted waters ship handling.

Course content:

• Basic ship handling practices;
• Bank effect;
• Bank effect and interaction between two ships;
• Squat effect;
• Bank Cushion effect;
• Narrow channels passing;
• Ship handling and maneuvering in restricted waters;
• Collision avoidance in confided water areas.

Target Audience: Deck officers, particularly junior ranks; pilots, students of nautical universities.

Pre-requisites: None.

Duration: 1 – 2 days.
