The Radar Observer Recertification course must be taken every 5 years in order to revalidate the initial Radar Observer Course (ROC) certificate. The training is based on the Table A-II/1 of the STCW 2010 code requirements and provides theoretical and practical platform for the refreshing of radar navigation, plotting and collision avoidance skills acquired during the previous course(s).

Objective:

The main objective of the Radar Observer Recertification (ROR) training is to recapitulate the main points of the initial Radar navigation course and enhance delegates’ navigating skills with the help of the radar and ARPA equipment. The particular focus of the course is on the safety of navigation and collision avoidance.

Course content:

• Radar functions and settings;
• Radar data interpretation and application in ship navigation;
• Rapid and transfer plotting techniques;
• COLREG and collision avoidance.

Target Audience: Holders of the Radar Observer Course (ROC) Unlimited certificate requiring revalidation.

Pre-requisites: in-date initial Radar Observer Course (ROC) Unlimited certificate.

Duration: 1 day.

Note: sometimes training providers hold the Radar Observer Recertification training in the evening as an additional course.
