The Radar Navigation at Operational Level course is developed in accordance with STCW Sections A-II/1, A-II/2 requirements and guidelines of IMO Model Course 1.07. It is also known as the Radar Navigation, Radar Plotting and Use of ARPA (Operational Level) training and is focused on the marine radar equipment and its navigational capabilities.

Objective:

During the Radar Navigation at Operational Level course students learn the configuration of radar equipments, its working principles, factors that might affect data accuracy and optimal display modes. Delegates also obtain the essential skills of radar plotting, ARPA system operation and safe navigational practices including collision avoidance.

Course content:

• Theory of marine radar equipment;
• Setting up the radar;
• Manual radar plotting;
• Safe navigation with radar;
• COLREGs;
• ARPA system theory and practice.

Assessment: Assessment system varies depending on internal training centers’ policy.

Target Audience: Deck Cadets and Deck Officers.

Pre-requisites: valid Radar Observer Course (ROC) certificate.

Duration: 5 – 10 days.
