Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats (Refresher Course)
The Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats (Refresher Course) course is developed within the guidelines of Chapter VI, Section A-VI/2, and paragraph 11 of the STCW 2010 Convention as a necessary up-grading training for the initial Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats (FRB) training.
Objective:
The main goal of the course is to refresh skills and knowledge obtained by crew members during the initial training as well as receive some hands-on practice of FRB operation to ensure their continual competence.
Course content:
• Periodical inspections of the fast rescue boat to ensure immediate readiness in case of emergency;
• Sequence of actions from launching of FRB and consequent search and rescue operations to retrieving fast rescue boat back to the ship;
• Man overboard rescue procedure;
• Search patterns and maneuvering in adverse weather conditions;
• Rescue of the near-drowned person and transportation of the casualty;
• Use of communication and signaling equipment of the FRB;
• Capsize and recovery techniques.
Assessment: there is an on-going assessment during practical exercises and short written exam or test at the end of the course.
Target Audience: Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats (Refresher Course) is attended by marine personnel, crew members of the fast rescue boat wishing to renew their initial certificate.
Pre-requisites: Medical Fitness Certificate and the valid Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats (FRB) course certificate.
Duration: 1 – 2 days.
Validity: 5 years.
