Objectives:

• The aim of the course is to acquire sufficient knowledge in operation and selection of position reference systems and vessel sensors which are usually used as a part of DP system.
• Practice operation of DP PRS through the series of simulator exercises and on the live equipment.

Course Content:

• Review of DP principles;
• Practical guidance on the planning, selection and operation of the proper PRS for the different DP operations;
• Overview of DGPS/GLONASS systems along with maintenance and troubleshooting information;
• Hydro acoustic module. Participants will be familiarized with Hydro Acoustic Position Reference (HPR) principles and HiPAP system. They will also perform Super Short Base Line (SSBL) and Long Base Line (LBL) positioning and basic SSBL and LBL system operations at their own demo computer with standard APOS software.
• Induction into Fanbeam® software and exercise on live Radius ® equipment.
• Operation of Light Taut Wire. Participants will learn how to configure and perform basic maintenance of the system.
• Rules, regulations and international guidelines regarding PRS and sensors.
• Optimal operation modes of various PRS and their limitations during DP operations.
• Simulator exercises.

Assessment: there is no specific assessment procedure.

Target Audience:  DP operators wishing to improve their knowledge of PRS and DP System handling.

Pre-requisites: there are no mandatory pre-requisites for the course; however DP certificate and experience would be a considerable asset.
