The G5 Crane Operator Course (Module 0-2.1) is a standard theoretical training covering the operational and safety aspects of G5 and G20 offshore cranes.

Objective:

The key goal of the G5 Crane Operator Course is to provide offshore crane operators with fundamental knowledge of construction, operational characteristics, and maintenance tips of G5 offshore and G20 knuckle boom cranes to ensure accident free working environment.

Course content:

• Introduction and definition of the offshore crane;
• Area of application of offshore cranes;
• Accidents associated with G5 and G20 cranes;
• Standards and regulations which guide offshore crane operations;
• Design, construction features of offshore and knuckle boom cranes;
• Electrical, hydraulic, mechanic systems of the cranes;
• Load diagrams and safety equipment;
• Winches, wires, blocks fitted to the cranes;
• Cranes maintenance and inspections;
• Documentation and certification;
• Safe operation of the offshore crane;
• Simulator practice.

Assessment: There is a written exam at the end of the course consisting of 50 questions. Pass/fail system is in place.

Target Audience: Personnel operating offshore cranes and requiring certificates for G5 or G20 crane types.

Pre-requisites: Delegates must present completed module O-1.1 Use of Lifting Gear or equivalent for admission for the course.

Duration: 5 days.

Validity: 3 years.
