Banksman
The number of reported worksite accidents is still unacceptably high. That means that all personnel must receive sufficient professional and safety training. The Banksman course is a mixture of theoretical sessions containing bullet point of relevant industry legislation and vital safety information and necessary practical exercises.
Objectives:
The main goal of the Banksman course is to provide delegates with:
• Understanding of the lifting legislation;
• Knowledge of communication methods between the banksman and crane operator;
• Familiarize with the lifting equipment; its’ pre-use procedures, operational features and storage methods;
• Practice lifting in a safe controlled environment.
Course content:
• Introduction to the present LOLER, HASWA, PUWER legislation;
• Banksman, slinger and crane operators’ roles and responsibilities in terms of the current legislation;
• Lifting gear pre-use inspection, storage and discard rules;
• Risk assessment and working out of the lifting and load moving plan;
• Radio and hand signals as ways of communication between banksman and crane operator;
• Load weight, center of gravity assessment; slinging angles and tension;
• Storage and loading methods of containers and half heights;
• Lifting exercises with the different loads.
Assessment: At the end of the training delegates would be asked undergo a written examination, develop a lifting plan and carry out a lifting exercise.
Target Audience: Personnel interested or assigned to the Banksmen and Slinger role.

Duration: 1 day.
