The ISF Marlins English Language Test is a most reputable and widely accepted language knowledge assessment test platform in the maritime industry. It is developed by British Marlins Corporation and is available in a variety of accredited training centers around the globe as well as online.

In order to ensure absolute fairness of the assessment, ISF Marlins English Language Test is adjusted to the rank of the seafarer passing the test. The complexity level and theme of questions will change correspondingly. Standard test contains 85 questions which are broken down into several categories:

• Listening comprehension (25 questions);
• Grammar block (30 questions);
• Vocabulary (15 questions);
• Different sounds and pronunciation (9 questions);
• Reading (1 question);
• Time and numbers (5 questions).

Assessment: the result is calculated as an overall percentage from all the questions.  There is no particular time limit, but it is recommended to complete the test in 60 minutes. It is also possible to return to any question at any time throughout the test and change the answer or fill it in if the question was missed.

Note: Marlins has developed two other tests for Cruise Ship and Offshore Marine industries i.e.  Marlins English Language Test for Cruise Ship Staff and Marlins English Language Test for Offshore Workers to make sure specific vocabulary and grammar constructions are present in the assessment.
