Appreciating the importance of high English language level among seafarers, many training centers started developing field specific trainings i.e. Maritime English Course for Navigators and Engineers. Such diversification allows providing more extended vocabulary focused the certain department e.g. scrutinize bridge equipment and watch keeping duties during the Maritime English for Navigators training.

Objective:

Upon completion of the Maritime English Course for Navigators participants should be able to:

• Communicate confidently and clearly with other members of the mixed crew;
• Perform routine ship handling activities;
• Communicate with foreign shore-based authorities;
• Maintain ship-to-ship, ship-to-shore communication sessions;
• Participate in vessel audits and port state controls; handle paper work in business/technical/ maritime English.

Course content:

• General English used for communication and correspondence;
• Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP);
• Navigational/ bridge specific vocabulary and terminology;
• Bridge watch keeping duties and responsibilities;
• Vessel Safety Management System and security procedures in English;
• Handling emergency situations.

Assessment:  Training providers appeal to a variety of assessment systems from a bespoke solutions developed in-house to the internationally recognized online platforms as ISF Marlins English Language Test. Please note that is also available in its offshore (Marlins English Language Test for Offshore Workers) and cruise ship industry versions (Marlins English Language Test for Cruise Ship Staff). Another popular assessment options are CES (Crew Evaluation System) and MarTEL.
