Acknowledging the special character of piloting operations, maritime training providers have developed the dedicated Maritime English Course for Pilots which covers all the aspects of pilotage from planning to the pilot – master relations and narrow channels passing.

Objectives:

Among the goals of the Maritime English Course for Pilots is providing special vocabulary and practical English language speaking skills that are required for the safe and efficient pilotage in the international ports.

Course content:

• General English, principles of business communication;
• Types of vessels, bridge equipment, navigation maps;
• Pilotage planning and watch handover;
• Pilotage operations, pilot card, pilot – master relations;
• Vessel embarkation and disembarkation safety procedures;
• STCW convention, ISPS, MARPOL codes, SOLAS conv., first medical aid;
• Weather conditions and maps, radio communications in course of piloting;
• Anchor handling, towing and mooring operations.

Assessment: Internal oral assessment is mostly used for these courses.

Target Audience: Pilots, harbor masters.
