The IWCF Drilling Well Control Level 3&4 training is created for management level rig personnel expected to shut-in a well in case of unexpected or unintended kick (Level 3/Driller )and rig Supervisors and onshore top management of drilling companies or staff involved in well design (Level 4/Supervisor). The course program is developed in compliance with IWCF Rotary Well Control Surface & Subsea BOP Stack Certification Syllabus, so participants can choose either Surface or Combined certification scheme.

Objective:

Among the goals of the IWCF Drilling Well Control Level 3&4 training are the following objectives:

• Demonstrate knowledge of principles and procedures used in well control operations with surface and subsea BOP stack in accordance with IWCF requirements;
• Master well control equipment necessary for surface and subsea well control operations;
• Demonstrate the ability to shut-in a well in a simulated environment as per IWCF standards;
• Obtain sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge to pass the assessment.

Course content:

• Formation pressure and their geological causes;
• Hydrostatic and dynamic pressure;
• Causes and indicators of kicks;
• Well shut-in;
• Gas behavior;
• Well kill;
• Well control equipment.

Assessment: Candidates can choose either “Combined” (Surface & Subsea) or “Surface Only” IWCF Certification Syllabus. Each written task must be completed with the minimum 70% score to be granted the IWCF certificate. Assessment includes multiple choice tests where participants will be asked to identify equipment component and operating procedures, solve well control problems. Also, each student should perform kill sheet calculations. Practical assessment is conducted on drilling simulator in pairs i.e. driller level and supervisor level candidates are given task to shut-in a well in accordance with IWCF standards.

Target Audience: Driller, Assistant Driller and equivalent positions in well servicing and intervention; Drilling, Intervention and Wellsite Supervisors and equivalent personnel; Toolpusher, OIM , Drilling Contractor Rig Manager, etc. Full list of recommended positions can be viewed here.
