ISM Code AwarenessThe ISM Code Familiarization also known as ISM Code Awareness training is developed to introduce seafarers of all ranks to the IMO imposed International Safety Management Code mandatory to the majority of merchant ships and mobile offshore installations units (MODU). The course also includes information about the relevant IMO and SOLAS resolutions; ISM and SMS audits.

Objective:

At the end of the ISM Code Familiarization training delegates will achieve the following learning outcomes:

• Recognize the main principles of ISM code and their application in the Safety Management System (SMS);
• Adhere to the principles of ISM Code and implement them on board of their vessels;
• Comprehend the structure of Safety Management System and control ISM compliance;
• Cooperate with external auditors and inspectors effectively ensuring positive results of controls and productive follow ups.

• General familiarization with ISM code;
• Objectives and application areas of ISM code;
• Terms and definitions;
• Safety and environmental protection;
• Company’s role;
• DPA and Masters’ roles and responsibilities;
• Ship board plans and personnel roles;
• Emergency response and contingency plans;
• Reports and analysis of non-conformities;
• Vessel and equipment maintenance as per ISM code;
• ISM code documentation.

Target Audience: All nautical and offshore personnel.

Pre-requisites: None.

Duration: 1 – 5 days.
