Well Sharp Introductory LevelThe aim of the IADC WellSharp Well Control Introductory Level course is to provide general understanding of the drilling process and importance of well control in accordance with IADC WellSharp standards. The program is delivered through the series of interactive lectures with a well control practice on a drilling simulator.

Objective:

Upon the successful completion of the IADC WellSharp Well Control Introductory Level delegates will possess sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge so as be able to:

• Realize the need for professional well control in a drilling site;
• Numerate signs of an approaching kick and know procedures that should be put in place if the kick indicators are present;
• Obtain shut-in pressures and parameters professionally;
• In case of well control loss be able to select correct methods of regaining control;
• Complete surface and subsea kill sheet correctly;
• Perform basic level well control calculations;
• Use well control equipment professionally;
• Pass a written IADC WellSharp assessment with a minimum 70% score.

Course content:

• Introduction to well control;
• Well control basic calculations;
• Mud pit management;
• Hazards of well control loss and risk management;
• Main causes of kick, detection;
• Abnormal pressure;
• Shut-in procedures and monitoring;
• Well control drills;
• Well control methods;
• Surface and subsea kill sheets;
• Well control equipment characteristics.

Assessment: To obtain IADC WellSharp certificate delegates must complete a written assessment. A minimum passing score is 70%. Candidates may select either “Combined” (Surface and Subsea) or “Surface only” BOP stack certification scheme. Assessment takes place on pre-registered lap-tops.

Target Audience: All drilling personnel up to derrickman, subsea engineer and barge engineer level.

Pre-requisites: there are no specific certificate requirements for this course, but some previous offshore drilling experience is a must.

Note: In order to continue education within IADC WellSharp scheme students are recommended to take up the IADC WellSharp Well Control Driller Level course.

Duration: 2.5 days.

Validity:  5 years.
