IADC Driller LevelThe IADC WellSharp Well Control Driller Level training is designed for drilling rig personnel designated to shut-in a well in case of a well control loss i.e. Drillers and Assistant Drillers. The course program is built on the syllabus of the IADC WellSharp Well Control Introductory Level and is focused on the comprehensive analysis of well shut-in operations from first kick detection to shutting-in the well to post-shut-in monitoring and well killing.

Objective:

After the IADC WellSharp Well Control Driller Level training participants are expected to:

• Perform advanced well control calculations including static and dynamic pressure calc., volumes and capacities calculations for drilling and tripping operations, etc.;
•Understand gas behavior and its effect on wellbore pressures;
• Numerate possible causes of kicks for on-bottom and off-bottom conditions;
• Be able to shut-in a well in a variety of operational conditions;
• Complete kill sheets for a vertical and deviated wells;
• Use correct well control equipment for surface and subsea operations;
• Demonstrate an ability to kill a well;
• Perform a well control operation from kick detection to shut-in and well killing using a drilling simulator.

Course content:

• Drilling, workover and completion;
• Well control overview;
• Mud pit management;
• Pre-recorded data;
• Abnormal pressure – warning signs;
• Causes of kicks;
• Prevention of kicks;
• Barriers;
• Tophole drilling;
• Kick detection;
• Shut-it and well killing;
• Well control equipment;

Assessment: Assessment for IADC WellSharp Well Control Driller Level certificate presupposes online written and practical simulator tasks that must be completed with the minimum 70% score. Candidates may choose either “Combined” (Surface and Subsea) or “Surface only” BOP stack certification scheme.

Target Audience: Drillers and Assistant Drillers.

Pre-requisites: there are no specific certificate requirements for this course, but availability of prior IWCF or IADC certification at Introductory or Driller level will be beneficiary. Previous drilling experience is definitely a preference.
