HSE Offshore Medic Course

The HSE Offshore Medic course is an official training requirement under the Offshore Installations and Pipeline Works (First Aid) Regulations 1989 for designated medical personnel employed on the offshore installations in the UK waters. The course is a blend of classroom-based lectures and practical sessions in local hospitals.

Objective:

On completion of the HSE Offshore Medic course doctors will be able to:

• Extend adequate first aid to the most wide spread offshore health conditions;
• Provide emergency response in case of an accident;
• Treat illnesses, traumas and various health conditions in the offshore environment.

Course content:

• Offshore medical department equipment;
• ENT illnesses;
• Trombolisys treatment;
• Eye conditions;
• Heart conditions;
• Advanced airway management;
• Hypothermia and Hyperthermia;
• Traumas and fractions;
• Suturing and wound care techniques;
• Injections and urinary catheterization;
• Offshore emergency conditions;
• Prescription and administration of drugs;
• Diving emergencies treatment.

Target Audience: Professional medical personnel advancing to the qualification of HSE Offshore Medic.

Pre-requisites: Medical qualification* and at least 2 years of experience.

Duration: 4 weeks.

Validity: 3 years, revalidation through the HSE Offshore Medic Refresher training.
