This is an OPITO training designed for the offshore personnel appointed as Helicopter Landing Officers (HLO) who require the additional level of competence i.e. Helideck Emergency Response Team Leader (HERTL) certificate to take over emergency situations that might occur in a helicopter or on a Helideck.

Objective:

The aim of the training is to provide HERTLs with an understanding of the ultimate importance of the pre-planning; profound knowledge of helideck emergency equipment and practical skills of its operation in a variety of typical helicopter or helideck emergencies. Another important objective of the HERTL course is to train delegates to manage their Helideck Emergency Response Teams and appreciate human factor effect influencing people’s behavior in a stressful situation.

Course content:

• Necessary preparations for a helideck emergency;
• Helideck Emergency Response pre-planning;
• Helideck and helicopter emergency systems and equipment;
• Leading and managing Helideck Emergency Response;
• HERTL’s duties and responsibilities;
• Normally Unattended Installations (NUI) Emergency Response procedures and requirements;
• Practical Helideck Emergency Response Team Leader (HERTL) exercises.

Assessment: Normally assessment is done by the means of a direct observation during practical exercises and a short oral or written examination.

Target Audience: Helicopter Landing Officers (HLO) requiring Helicopter Emergency Response Team Leader (HERTL) certificates and proficiency.

Pre-requisites*: Valid Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) and Helideck Emergency Response Team Member (HERTM) or Helideck Emergency Response Team Member Further (HERTMF) certificates.

Note:* Offshore professionals operating on the UKCS (United Kingdom Continental Shelf) will also be required to present valid Radio Operators Certificate of Competence (ROCC) to be admitted for the OPITO approved training.
