Tank Atmosphere Control and Gas MeasurementThe Gas Measurement course is developed for tanker officers and ratings. The program is focused on operational features of gas control intruments and safety procedures during atmosphere checking in the cargo tank, bunker tank and ballast tank of the vessel. In some training centers the course is called Tank Atmosphere Control and Gas Measurement.

Objective:

After the completion of training students will be familiar with the appropriate way to employ various gas test devices and apply results correctly to control tanks atmosphere.

Course content:

• Gas measurement intruments;
• Design, set up, operation of Oxygen analyser, Interferometer / Tankscope, Combustible gas detector (explosimeter), Multigas detector, Draeger Tubes;
• Basics of atmosphere control;
• Instruments accuracy and limitations;
• Checking, calibration and maintenance;
• Physical and chemical properties of oil products;
• Toxic and potential health hazards of oil product cargo;
• Oxygen deficiency;
• Flammable gases;
• Purging and gas freeing procedures.

Target Audience: Tanker officers and ratings of all levels.

Pre-requisites: Previous tanker experience is desirable.

Duration: 1.5 days.
