This is a practical course aimed at optimizing the operation and control of ship’s machinery by training Marine Engineers to utilize Engine Room resources safely and in the most efficient way. Course is developed in accordance with is STCW 2010 Convention i.e. Sections A-III/1, A-III/2, A-VIII/2 and B-VIII/2.

Objectives:

After the course trainees will:

• Be fully competent in the equipment and controls used for modern vessels engine room;
• Use proper watch-keeping procedures, pre-planning and checklists;
• Understand in-depth engine room systems operations and interdependence principles;
• Learn time management and decision-making techniques;
• Promote safety and right attitude in the Engine Department;
• Have skills in fault-finding and trouble-shooting.

Course Content:

• Introduction to simulator facility and its capabilities;
• Starting up procedures and guidelines; launch of main engine and other systems following the appropriate checklists and procedures.
• Safety issues in the ship’s machinery;
• HR, time management and decision making;
• Malfunctions recognition and trouble-shooting.

Assessment: Written assessment at the end of the course.

Target Audience: Management and Operational level Engineering Officers, Engine cadets, ETOs, etc.

Pre-requisites: Some prior knowledge of Marine Engineering is required.
Occasionally training providers might request COC as a requirement for course admission.

Duration: 5 days.
