The course is designed as an effective personal development and team-building tool for engineering specialists as it comprises of a series of lectures, discussions, practical exercises and case studies held in Engine Room simulator environment. Main objectives of the training are set in compliance with Chapter III, Table A-III/1 and Table A-III/2 of STCW 2010 code.

Objectives:

• Study the human resource management techniques which will promote more efficient operation of the engine room plants and equipment;
• Familiarize with the up-to-date international procedures of watch-keeping;
• Be aware of critical importance of the human factor in an Engine department and ways to change personnel’s attitude;
• Obtain a proper training in case of emergency in the engine room.

Course content:

• Introduction to Engine Room Simulator equipment and systems;
• Management techniques, leadership, communication in the ER;
• Watch-keeping procedures;
• Situational awareness and error chains;
• Time management, decision making, task delegation;
• Contingency planning;
• Crisis management;
• Emergency situations case studies;

Assessment: Written assessment at the end of the course.

Target Audience: Marine Engine Officers of all ranks, Engine cadets, ETOs, etc.

Pre-requisites: Some prior knowledge of Marine Engineering is required.
Occasionally training providers might request COC as a requirement for course admission.

Duration: 2 – 3 days.
