This is a highly useful combination training designed in compliance with Sections A-III/1, A-III/2 and A-VIII/2 of the STCW Code 2010 and guidelines of IMO Model Course 2.07. Its aims and syllabus are compiled from two popular Marine Engineer Courses i.e. Engine Room Simulator (ERS) training which is a primarily hands on experience and Engine Room Resource Management (ERRM)  course known as one of the most effective human resource management trainings in the industry.

Objectives:

After the training students will be able to:
• Understand the operational principles and co-dependence of all engine room plants and systems.
• Operate them expertly; perform faults location and available maintenance.
• Employ optimal watch-keeping practices, follow proper international engine room procedures, be particular with planning and log-keeping.
• They also study the importance of situational awareness and right attitude as crucial ways to human errors avoidance.
• Trainees completing the course should be skilled in interpersonal and cross-cultural communication; leadership and teambuilding matters;
• Understand the issues of workload, stress and rest distribution as vital aspects of HR management.

Course content:

• Introduction to Engine Room simulator and its capabilities.
• Starting up and operation of various plants, systems, controls and instrumentations following necessary procedures. Each simulator exercise is proceeded by a briefing and ended by a collective debrief with discussion.
• Role-playing simulator exercises with each trainee taking place of a different rank in the Engine team and having the chance to perform the duties of the engineer of the watch.
• Emergency scenarios and fault-finding exercises.

Assessment: Full attendance and continual assessment during the course.

Target Audience: Marine Engine Officers of all ranks.

Pre-requisites: Some prior knowledge of Marine Engineering is required.
Occasionally training providers might request COC as a compulsory requirement for course admission.

Duration: 5 – 6 days.
