The Confined Space Entry (High Risk) course is developed in order to train personnel assigned to work in confined space classified as high risk (NC4) i.e. deep enclosed places requiring a self contained breathing apparatus to be worn permanently. The course complies with City and Guilds requirements and includes  comprehensive theoretical description of high risk confined spaces as well as massive practical training of  safe working skills in hazardous environment.

Objectives:

The primary aim of the Confined Space Entry (High Risk) course is to fully educate personnel working in dangerously enclosed spaces about potential hazards of operations there and provide them with hand-on experience of accident free work in a confined space. This includes:

• Defining high risk confined spaces (shafts, voids, tunnels, etc.) and identifying risks attributed to them;
• Analyzing risks and developing feasible control plans;
• Operating safety equipment professionally (tripod, davit, winches, harnesses (EN1497) and so on);
• Being able to work full time in a SCBA, perform pre-enter checking of the BA equipment, correct donning and fault finding;
• Demonstrate good knowledge of emergency and decontamination procedures.

Course content:

• Types of CS, definition of the term;
• Legislative frame;
• Specific hazards of the High Risk Confined Space, Risk Assessment and Permit to Work;
• Top man duties and pre-entry procedures;
• Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, Escape sets;
• Safety equipment i.e. tripods, davit, winches, harnesses (EN1497), gas detention devices;
• Emergency procedures and egress from a High Risk confined space;
• Decontamination upon finishing work in CS.

Assessment: the course includes a written examination and practical task, for example escape from a confined space by a signal from a gas monitor or similar.

Target Audience: Personnel designated to work in a confined spaces classified as high risk.

Duration: 3 days.

Validity: 3 years.

Note: personnel interested in expanding their expertise might take Confide Space Rescue or Working at Height trainings.
