COW and IGSThe purpose of the Crude Oil Washing and Inert Gas Systems training is to introduce delegates to the design features, operational techniques and safety limitations of COW and IGS systems which are most commonly used aboard tankers. The course program complies with the requirements of STCW Convention STCW Code chapter V, section A-V/1-1, Table A-V/1-1-2.

Objective:

Upon the completion of the Crude Oil Washing and Inert Gas Systems training participants will be able to:

• Identify various components of the Crude Oil Washing and Inert Gas Systems;
• Define benefits and disadvantages of the systems;
• Operate them in a safe and efficient manner;
• Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of COW and IGS systems.

Course content:

• Familiarization with the COW system;
• Advantages and disadvantages of the COW system;
• Sediments effects;
• Crude Oil Washing requirements;
• Operating and Safety procedures during COW;
• Basic principles of the IGS;
• Design of the IGS system and its advantages;
• Operational and Safety requirements for IGS system operation;
• Use of IGS during tanker operational cycle;
• IGS tank cleansing details.

Target Audience: The Crude Oil Washing and Inert Gas Systems course will be useful for tanker officers and ratings.

Pre-requisites: None.

Duration: 2 days.
