According to the requirements of STCW Regulation V/2, Officers and Ratings of Passenger vessels who are assigned on muster lists to participate in passenger handling during an emergency situation onboard are obliged to take Crowd Management Refresher Training every 5 years if they are unable to provide ‘evidence of having achieved the required standard of competence within the previous 5 years’ as per STCW  Regulation V/2.3.  Such ‘evidence’ can be a proven seatime onboard of a passenger ship in a relevant position.

Objective:

The Crowd Management Refresher Training is aimed at reviving existing theoretical knowledge and practical skills in crowd handling that have been acquired during the initial Crowd Management Training. These are:

• Understanding of ship safety and emergency procedures;
• Practical skills in directing passengers during embarkation or mustering;
• Ability to demonstrate correct application of ship’s life-saving appliances;
• Working with the stressed crowds quickly and efficiently.

Course content:

• Emergency drills, assisting passengers on their way to embarkation or mustering stations;
• Ship life-saving equipment refresher module;
• Crowd management;
• Ship emergency procedures and control plans.

Assessment: the course presupposes continual assessment throughout the training.

Target Audience: Any personnel appointed to take charge over passengers in case of emergency according to muster list.

Pre-requisites: valid initial Crowd Management Training certificate.

Duration: ½ day.
