The STCW Crowd and Crisis Management Training is a minimum training requirement for officers and crew of Passenger/Cruise and Ro-Ro vessels. The course complies with the Table V/2 of the convention and guidelines of IMO Model Courses 1.28 and 1.29. The aim of the CCM training is provide personnel of the passenger vessels with the essential knowledge of crowd handling in a crisis situation onboard.

Please note that course programs vary considerably from one provider to the other. Some only include Crowd and Crisis Management (Table V/2, 1 and 3), other training centers also use topics ‘providing Direct service to Passengers in Passenger Spaces’ (A-V / 2 (2)) and ‘Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity’( A-V / 2 (4)). Therefore, check the requirements of your Company prior to committing to the course.

Objective:

Upon successful completion of the Crowd and Crisis Management Training delegates will demonstrate the following results:

• Sound knowledge of stress impact on human psyche and methods of coping;
• Ability to assist passengers and other crew members throughout mustering and evacuation procedures;
• Practical skills in ship life-saving equipment operation as well as ability to locate it onboard;
• Detailed knowledge of ship layout and emergency plans.

Course content:

• Variety of ship life-saving appliances including practical exercises in their usage;
• Ship layout and shipboard emergency plans;
• Ship emergency procedures;
• Panic and Stress aspects, human behavior control;
• Effective communication during emergency onboard;
• Crowd Management procedures, mustering and embarkation.

Assessment: Depending on the training center’s internal policy, students might be subjected either to the written examination or assessed continually during the course.

Target Audience: Bridge and Engine Room management, operational and support level personnel designated to assist passengers as per muster lists.

Duration: 1 day.
