The Bridge Team Management (Refresher Course) is developed in accordance with requirements of STCW Tables A-II/1, A-II/2, and A-II/3 and Sections A-VIII/2 & B-VIII/2 as well as guidelines of IMO Model course 1.22 and is focused on upgrading nautical officers’ skills of safe and efficient navigation.

Objectives:

Upon completion of the Bridge Team Management (Refresher Course) bridge officers will:

• Refresh their knowledge of passage plan development;
• Upgrade communicational skills and appreciate advantages of building a common model of planned passage;
• Polish shiphandling techniques under normal and emergency conditions;
• Evaluate effects of wind, currents, shallows, etc. on vessel’s maneuverability;
• Expand bridge team management capabilities.

Course Content:

• Bridge equipment review;
• Passage planning and building a shared mental model of voyage;
• Voyage planning, position fixes, lookouts;
• Effects of wind, current, shallow waters and narrow channels on navigational capabilities of the vessels;
• Ship handling under normal and emergency conditions; use of engines and helm during maneuvering;
• Human resource management on the bridge.

Assessment: There is a continual assessment during the course.

Target Audience:  Masters, Chief Mates and other nautical officers.

Pre-requisites: valid initial BTM course certificate.

Duration: 3 days.
