The Basic Training for Oil, Chemical and Liquefied Gas Tankers Cargo Operations course conveniently unifies programs of several basic tanker trainings and provides an initial competence for officers and ratings in charge of cargo operations or cargo equipment and complies with Regulations V/1-1 and V/1-2 of the STCW Code.

Objectives:

During the Basic Training for Oil, Chemical and Liquefied Gas Tankers Cargo Operations course delegates acquire the following skills and knowledge:

• Obtain comprehensive familiarization with tanker industry including vessel and cargo types and their properties;
• Learn about hazards that are associated with oil, chemical and liquefied gas cargoes;
• Acquire knowledge concerning safety and emergency procedures that are in place on tankers of different types;
• Become aware of the possible detrimental environmental effect and methods that are in place to avoid pollution prevention.

Course content:

• International regulations and guidelines;
• Types of tanker vessels, details of construction and equipment;
• Necessary tanker terminology;
• Cargo classification, physical and chemical features of tanker cargos, entailed hazards;
• Safe cargo handling operations;
• Tanker fire-fighting, search and rescue procedures;
• Emergency response, shutdown;
• Measures to prevent cargo release and consequent contamination or water and air.

Assessment: written examination at the end of the course.

Target Audience: Officers and ratings involved in cargo handling operations or tank cleansing on any type of tanker vessel.

Pre-requisites:  Valid Basic Safety Training (BST) certificate.

Duration: 7 days.
