OPITO Banksman and Slinger Stage 3
The OPITO Banksman and Slinger Stage 3 Competence Assessment is the next career step after the offshore OPITO Banksman and Slinger Stages 1 & 2. During the assessment candidates demonstrate their ability to bank a crane communicating effectively with crane operator and conduct slinging of various types of loads. Generally, the OPITO Banksman and Slinger Stage 3 Competence Assessment is a combination of the theoretical tests and practical sessions in course of which candidates must prove that they are able to assist crane operation safely and effectively.
Objectives:
During the Stage 3 Competence Assessment candidates have to demonstrate the following knowledge and abilities:
• Understanding and correct application of the relevant lifting regulations;
• Ability to work with loads assessing their weight, centre of gravity and security to lift;
• Knowledge of pre-lifting procedures including inspection of lifting equipment;
• Profound Slinging skills: preparing slinging gear and loads, controlling loads movements and placing;
• Adherence to safety practices in all aspects on lifting operations.
Assessment content:
• Unit 1: Banksman role: Controlling lifting operations, conducting radio and hand language communication with the crane operator.
• Unit 2: Slinger role: assessing the weight and gravity center of the load, choosing the correct lifting gear for the job, controlling lifting and placing, clearing the worksite.
Target Audience: Banksmen wishing to obtain internationally recognized competence certificates.
Pre-requisites: valid OPITO Banksman and Slinger Stage 1 certificate; completed OPITO Banksman and Slinger Stage 2 logbook (27 banksman activities and 30 slinger activities varied out within 2 years).
Note: the experienced banksmen can apply for completion of the Banksman and Slinger Stage 3 Competence Assessment without attending Stage 1 course and Stage 2 sea time logbook filling. In order to use this option, candidate should submit a formal letter from the employing company. It should contain the employer representative’s position in the company, full contact details; be signed and dated. The Letter should clearly state that the candidate has performed 9 kinds of lifting operations minimum 3 times (on separate dates) and 10 different slinger activities, each on 3 separate dates as well.
Duration: 1 day.
Validity: 2 years.
