The Anchor Handling Simulator courses prove to be quite useful tool for offshore bridge officers as they provide the all-round understanding of risks involved in the anchor-handling, rig move and other related activities as well as thorough practice training of all operations in the manual, joystick and DP modes.

Objectives:

On completion of the Anchor Handling Simulator course, successful delegates will be able to:

• Conduct risk assessment of the planned Anchor Handling operation;
• Describe industrial procedures in rig move operation, AH calculations, safe use of Triplex Shark Jaws and Karm Forks;
• Demonstrate safe use of winches and winch computes;
• Run and retrieve anchor with PC;
• Establish effective communication between bridge and all involved in AH operations e.g. winch operator, rig crew, etc.;
• Demonstrate high competence in problem solving and decision making.

• Industry procedures for AH, Rigmove, winch operations;
• Guidelines for Offshore Marine Operations (GOMO)*;
• Vryhof and Bruce anchor manuals*;
• Hazards associated with AH operations, risk management;
• Anchor Handling vessel design and layout;
• Anchor systems;
• Proficiency in operation of Shark Jaws (Triplex and Karm Fork);
• Running and retrieving anchor procedures;
• Winch operations;
• Communication module (bridge – rig; bridge – deck);
• Ship handling and decision making practical session.

Note:* These topics are present in the syllabus depending on training centers’ internal policy.

Assessment: Delegates are expected to complete written examination and practical simulator task at the end of the course.

Target Audience: Nautical officers requiring additional expertise in anchor-handling operations.

Pre-requisites: Some previous experience in AH operations is mandatory.

Duration: 4 – 5 days.
