The Meteorology (Advanced) course is developed for the Management Level Bridge personnel and is targeted at processing weather forecast information in order to develop safe and efficient passage plan avoiding heavy weather zones. The training is fully compliant with the STCW 2010 (Table A-II/1) and 46 CFR requirements.

Objective:

The goals of the Meteorology (Advanced) course are to train Senior Bridge officers in:

• Advance use of the ship’s weather systems including weather forecasting and employing obtained data for the voyage planning;
• Tropical zones weather control;
• Major weather phenomena and its interaction with the vessel dynamics;
• Analysis and prediction of currents and tides movements;
• Active use of special software with the view to reduce the impact of adverse weather on hull and ship’s systems.

Course content:

• Marine meteorology review;
• Routing assets and systems;
• Storm avoidance techniques;
• Synoptic charts;
• Computer routing capabilities;
• Hazardous ship motion.

Target Audience: Masters and Chief Officers.

Pre-requisites: Completion of the Meteorology (Operational Level) course prior to applying for the Advanced training.

Duration: 5 days.

Note for the US students: the syllabus of the Meteorology (Advanced) course complies with the meteorological training and learning objectives to Plan and Conduct a Passage and Determine Position, and the assessment requirements for Chief Mate and Master licenses applicable to vessels greater than 3000 gross tons. It also satisfies the following Tasks of NVIC 10-14: 7.1.A, 7.2.A, 7.3.A, 7.4.A, 7.4.B, and 7.4.C
