The Celestial Navigation – Advanced (Management Level) course is based on the requirements of the Table A-II/2 of the STCW 2010 Code and is developed to upgrade navigational capabilities of deck officers.

Objective:

During the Celestial Navigation – Advanced (Management Level) training students are expected to obtain advanced practical skills of vessel position fixing and route plotting by the aid of celestial bodies. The course program includes estimation of arrival time, correct identification and selection of stars, corrections of compass and sextant errors, voyage planning and plotting by celestial bodies, etc.

Course content:

• True phenomena: rising and setting of stars;
• Identification and selection of stars;
• Times of meridian Transit;
• Latitude at meridian Transit;
• Ex-meridian observations;
• Compass and sextant errors, corrections;
• Position fixing and plotting.

Assessment: There is a practical assessment at the end of the course.

Target Audience: Deck officers upgrading their qualification to the Unlimited status.

Pre-requisites: OOW CoC or an equivalent.

Duration: 7 days.
